Visitor Access

The shrine is open to the public 24/7, 365 days a year and may be explored at your own pace. While the shrine technically remains open year-round, please be advised that the parking lot and access roads are not typically plowed during the winter months. The Information Center & Gift Shop is open when volunteers are available.

Follow US 41 and turn onto Lambert Road by the tee pees. The yellow line on this map shows the way to the Shrine’s parking lot. Park and walk down the path to the Shrine.

Bishop Baraga Foundation

A volunteer board of directors conducts the business of the Bishop Baraga Foundation, a non-profit corporation recognized by the Internal Revenue Service. Donations are applied fully to continuing the Shrine.

The Bishop Baraga Foundation derives no income from the privately owned gift shop. Donations and income from grounds offering receptacles, including candles, are used for maintenance costs.

Statement of Purpose

  • Continual maintenance and preservation of the historical Shrine of the Snowshoe Priest and the beautiful grounds, which attract thousands of visitors annually.
  • Support various non-profit activities of the foundation.
